Banking Certificate

The Banking Certificate is a recognised international qualification offering the Alliance for African Institute of Bankers' Syllabus. Holders of this certificate qualify to enroll for the Certified Professional Banker Course.

Objectives

  •  To provide an educational background on which any individual can build a successful banking career.
  •  To provide skills and knowledge to bankers who for one reason or another have not had the opportunity for higher education before joining the banking industry.

Am I Eligible?

Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) with 1 Principal pass or equivalent.

What will I study on the course?

For the award of the Banking Certificate one must pass the 7 papers listed below as well as the Internship:-
Accounting ,Principles of Marketing & Business Ethics , Principles of Banking, Principles of Management, Principles of Economics, Principles of Law and Information Technology

This leads to the award of AUIB. The Certified Professional Banker (formerly Diploma in Banking) is the Alliance for African Institute of Bankers’ qualification. It is the basic qualification for the majority of career bankers that is internationally recognised.

 

Objectives

  1. To provide knowledge of technical banking and applied business studies along with an introduction to management.
  2. To provide a banking career to those who did not have a chance of pursuing it during their formal education.

Either: (i) Banking Certificate

   Or   (ii) A University Degree/Higher Diploma from a recognized Institution

The Institute Registrar invites applications for admission to a two–year Master’s degree in Financial Services for the Academic year 2016/2017.

MASTER OF ARTS IN FINANCIAL SERVICES DEGREE PROGRAMMETarget group

The programme targets graduates seeking to work in investment or commercial banking, specialized financial institutions, stock broking, dealing agencies, insurance, pension and investment funds. It will provide individuals in management positions with a better understanding of Management in a financial services environment, including strategy formulation and implementation. It is also well suited for fresh graduates wishing to acquire a postgraduate qualification for a career in financial services.

Mode of delivery

The programme is to be delivered through an evening study mode. Lectures will be held from Monday to Friday from 6.00 pm to 9.00 pm

Admission requirements

Applicants to the M.A. in Financial Services must meet the minimum requirement for admission to the programme set by National Council for higher Education (NCHE) and Makerere University. Specifically, applicants should possess the following requirements:

  1. At least second class degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Studies or a degree with a strong quantitative bias
  2. A holder of a first degree and a Diploma in Banking/ Certified Professional Banker obtained from Uganda Institute of Banking and Financial Services or Institute of Financial Services, UK.
  3. A holder of a first degree and a recognized professional qualification in accounting

POST GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN AGRICULTURAL RISK MANAGEMENT AND FINANCE (DAF-ARF) The Uganda Institute of Banking and Financial Services is a professional body offering Banking and Microfinance training.

The Registrar hereby invites applications for admission to the Post Graduate Diploma in Agricultural Risk Management and Finance Programme for the academic year 2016. This is a nine (9) month course done in partnership and awarded by the Mountains of the Moon University (MMU).

Mode of delivery

The programme is to be delivered through an evening study mode. Lectures will be held from Monday to Friday from 6.00 pm to 9.00 pm

Senior staff in Agriculture financing and lending in Commercial banks, Credit Institutions, MDIs, Microfinance Institutions, SACCOs, Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and fisheries personnel, Ministry of Finance Planning & Economic Development personnel, consultants, researchers, NGO staff such as Grants Officers, program managers/Officers and as well as fresh graduates wishing to acquire a postgraduate qualification for a career in financial services.

1. Evening Classes

The evening classes are conducted from 5.30p.m. to 8.30p.m. on weekdays.

2. Distance Learning – Weekend Face to Face Study
The Institute provides appropriate learning materials, which contain assignments, tests and model answers to those members who for reasons of location, work schedules or family commitments, cannot attend formal classes. Under this scheme the Institute conducts weekend face to face study sessions to help its members in study centres. Currently the centres are located in Kampala, Mbale, Mbarara, Arua, Kabale, Fort-Portal, Jinja, and Gulu.

3. Private Study
The Institute is committed to helping members to succeed in their examinations. Under this method of study, The Institute provides appropriate learning materials, which contain assignments, tests and model answers. There are ample study materials available in the library, special study packs, journals like the Ugandan Banker and many others.

4. Day Study
Day classes for Banking Certificate course from 9.00 a.m. to 4.00p.m. (Monday to Friday)

5. Weekend Study
Weekend classes for Certified Professional banker course from 8.30a.m to 4.00 p.m.

What is the pass mark in the examination?
The pass mark in each paper is 50% for undergraduate courses, and 60% for postgraduate courses, all courses have a continuous assessment that contributes to the final mark.

When does the semester begin?
The January – May 2017 semester begins on 16th January and end on 28th April 2017 and for the July – November 2017 semester they will begin on 24th July 2017 and end on 30th November 2017.

When are the examinations held?
Examinations are held in the first two weeks of May and November each year.
